Zell Am See – The Schwalbenwand Runde Hike. This is a 4-5 hour long 11.5km hike which is moderate to strenuous, with the first 4-5km being uphill, a killer for your legs. The views over Zell Am See lake are absolutely phenomenal though and totally worth the sweat. They are some of the best we had on our trip!

Zell am See has a nice town and the scenery of the lake in winter time is magical. Skiing wise it has some decent black runs down to the town centre. Not a big place to ski but so is Lech but Lech + Zurs do offer the nice "White Ring". Visitors will have the opportunity to ski the nearby Kaprun which is on the ski ski pass. It is a short bus ride.

Great place to visit. We visited the day after the terrible storm which flooded a lot of the local area. The weather was still overcast & damp but it was still well worth a visit. The falls were magnificent, plenty of spray so make sure you've waterprrofs with you.. Dogs are allowed. The sound of the water thundering over the edge is amazing.
1. Re: Salzburg and Salzkammergut and Zell am See - how to choose. If you have completed a cycle tour of the Salzkammergut then you will find Zell am See pretty much of the same. I agree with the previous poster. If you love walking/cycling get down to the area around Hallstatt and spend a couple of days.
