"A while back" :-) the engine light came on - on my '05 Octavia 2.0PD-TDI DSG - the car drove fine and performed as it did prior to the light. I did a bit of research on here and the net and (suspecting EGR or anti-shudder) got the codes read Connect the plug, Key On Engine Off and measure the signal wire. With the code P0408 you should read between 4,5v to 5v. Since the EGR is brand new, I think it's a wiring problem or a reset to the EGR position sensor is needed. These engines are a mess to troubleshoot.
